November 28, 2011

Hola!
Hows everyone doing? Well first off today we had transfers today and i was transfered to a place called Mitre in Salta its a few miles out from the capital. Its so weird leaving the only place ive been in but it seems like an awesome place here and not to mention im close one of the two Mcdonalds that there are in the mission. But my new comps. name is Elder Rose from Salt Lake City, Utah and hes an awesome guy i can tell hes a hard worker. But the weird thing is im living in the same place as Elder Brinton, who was in my house when i first started the mission so its pretty cool too see him again. And also with an Elder from Paraguay who Elder Brinton is training. Other than that right now its pretty stormy outside which is a good break from the heat.
Well i cant believe you postponed the soccer game but i guess we did the same thing last year. And unfortunatley i didnt do anything special for Thanksgiving. Well i dont have really anything to update you about on the people im teaching because i havent taught anyone yet so ill just tell you what happened before i left Alto Comodero.
First we were teaching Leonel who still hasnt felt like hes recieved an answer to his prayers but luckly he didnt get to disanimated. Then Barbara and Alejandro both realized that they want to be a part of this church and they even shared with us on how much changes theyve seen in their lives since theyve been listening to us it was so cool to hear and see the changes the gospel had in someones lives. Well ill fill you in more on how the area is next week. But thanks for everything

Nov. 14, 2011

Hows everyone going? Thats cool DH made it to state in football it sounds like they have a chance. Well things here are going good its pretty hot right now but everynow and then well get a day where it will rain like today which a good break. But ya dad the people still have the same problems with cell-phones here too. We even have a sign by the sacrament room door reminding people to turn off there phones and everynow and then youll get someone who forgets and there phones goes off but you just have to hope that doesnt ruin the experience for your investigators. And as far as my comp. goes he knows some english because every missonary here that doesnt speak english is given a packet when they come in to study from while the people who are learnio do anything for thanksgiving spanish are studying spanish.  And mom we dont get tng even though they have a holiday for just about anything else you can think of they dont have a thanksgiving day. But most of the members know what it is because of all the missionarys that have been here before. Well the last couple days where pretty awesome first off we had to wake up at like 4 in the morning Saturday and then travel to Salta which tiring but definatley worth it. Then we met up with all the missionarys in the mission which was cool to see cause i got to see all my old comps. again. Then when Elder Christofferson, Elder Jay Jensen, and Elder Arnold got there we got to shake all there hands and the wives too. Then we got to hear from Elder Jay Jensen who taught us about the power of the hymns that we sing and how theres a reason we sing them before and after every sacrament meeting because it invites the spirit so fast.
Then we got to hear from Elder Christofferson which was awesome he talked to us a little bit about the process of how we get our calls and how speacial this mission is to him because he served here before. Then he allowed us to ask him questions that we had. And one that a like alot was how can we learn to understand the difference between our thoughts and the impressions of the Spirit. He let Elder Arnold answer it first who told us it isnt always necissary to be able to tell the difference as long as the impressions that your feeling are positive, uplifting, and will bring you (or the person your teaching) closer to Christ. Then Elder Christofferson told us if we want to be able to understand the Spirit its like learning a new language you have to pray for help, study (the scriptures), and apply what youve learned. He also taught us alot about prayer he started off with a story from someone, i cant remember who, but he was a preacher of some other church and someone asked him how his prayers have changed from earlier in his life till now. And he answered before i spent a long time praying for a long list of things, but now i spend a lot of a time in my prayers in silence. And he related prayer to the change this preacher had how we dont always have to be talking constantly in our prayers but its ok to stop everynow and then to listen to what the spirit is telling you during the prayer. Unfortunatley we didnt get to hear to much from Elder Arnold but what he said to us was awesome.
Sunday also turned out to be a good day we ended up being the blessed zone because in our whole mission Elder Christofferson only spoke to the Stake in Jujuy. We also had a good turn out of our investigators. Barbara and Alejandro and there family showed up which was awesome and Leonel was able to go too. Weve also been working with someone named Lucas who's mom is a member who has been progressing a lot lately who was really interested in see Elder Christofferson. And the part that i liked was when he told us how blessed we are if we want to hear the word of God all we have to do is read the scriptures. And he also spoke a little bit on the importance of the Holy Ghost and how great of a gift it is that we have the ability to be able to recieve the guide in our life. Then at the end he invited all the youth and little kids to got up and shake his hand. Which was a good experience for Barbara and Alejandro because there two little kids got to go up and shake his hand. So overall it was a really good week.
Well thanks for all the love and support and everything else.
Love,
Elder Thompson

Nov. 7, 2011

Hows everyone doing? Things are starting to get really hot here, and the temperature is a little different than salta youll have to see if you can find the weather for Jujuy, Argentina. And ya the members are really good at feeding us, we usually have a calender in the church where the members can sign up to feed us and all the days that they could feed us are always filled up. Which is cool cause where i am borders a couple countries so theres members from different places so we get to try out the food from places like Bolivia, Uraguay, and Brazil and of course Argentina. Well the spanish is looking good dad and yes its definatley helped my spainsh alot having a comp from chile, because pretty much eveything i do and say now is in spanish. And my comp. is from Talagante, Chile which i guess is a town just outside of Santiago. Well this last week we had a good week Leonel has been progressing aton along with Barbara y Alejandro. Leonel had his 3rd week in a row going to church and is loving it, its easy to see that hes been prepared to hear the gospel. Barbara and Alejandro also came to church for the first time last sunday which was the perfect one for them because it was fast sunday and i could tell the testimonies had a strong impact on them. And yes the members are great at fellowshipping our investigators Leonel already has a good friend in the church, and we also had another one of our investigators come to church for the first time and he went right into the young mens class because hes friends with one of the members in there. But ya this next week coming up should be an awesome week because first off on saturday all the missionaries in the Salta, Argentina mission are meeting up to listen to Elder Christofferson, Elder Arnold, and Elder Jay Jenson then on Sunday Elder Christofferson is coming up to Jujuy to talk to our stake and the best thing is we have a lot of investigators that are interested in going and listening to an Apostol. So ill let you all know how that goes, thanks for all the love and support.

Baptism of Victoria!!

Oct. 3, 2011

Hola!
Hows everyone doing? Thats crazy parker broke his wrist. Thats awesome Mitch did the marathon hopefully one day ill be at the point where i can do that. And mom as far as the castellano, they dont really call it spanish,  i have no idea if its more European cause its the only spanish ive really heard. And dad youll have to tell chase i have no idea what that means either. Apparantly there was a big tornado or something in the U.S.? I saw a little bit of it in the church report in between the sessions.

Well of course last week there was General Conference which was way good. And no i didnt have to watch it in spanish they set up a different room for us in the stake center where all the missionaries could watch in English. But one of the talks i really liked was i think it was the one by Elder Callister? i dont know i dont have my notes with me but where he explained you can draw an infinate amount of lines from the bible but only one line from the bible to the book of mormon. Which i thought explained perfectly why there are so many different religions and also the importance of the Book of Mormon and the Bible together. But ya it seemed like something happened to Elder Hales youll have to tell me when you find out.

Other than that the talent show we had last week went good me and my comp didnt end up doing anything in it but the other two Elders in our house did one of them is a cowboy so he did some rope tricks which was cool and the other can sing opera real good so he did that. We had a good turn out though we had one of our investigators participate and members brought their friends too so we also got some new investigators out of it. So overall it was a pretty good week for us. Well thanks for all the love and support.

August 22, 2011

Hola Everyone!
How's everything going? How's school going now that thats started? Thats good Jared's adjusting good and i think thats funny one of the families he taught named there baby Jared. So i guess chase didn't want to do football this year? Well tell Parker Happy Birthday for me, its crazy to think its already August i guess time is starting to go by fast again now that i've been out here for about a month. Well dad as far as maids go, unfortunatley we dont have any of those here. And as far as exercising goes we get an hour in the morning to workout/get ready and we live right in front of a park so we can do pretty much whatever we want to exercise. Well as far as last week went, we met up with our ward mission leader and he told us about a family that hasn't gone to church for a long time so we went and visited them, and although the mom wasn't very interested we had a good lesson with Vanessa and her dad. And so last week we got Vanessa to go back to church and the members were way good to her so she had a good time and she even went to a family night lesson we had latter that night, so she seems like she's going to start coming back strong. She even has a friend we've been teaching with her who's not a member which is awesome. Then we also had Nadia go to church and the the family night lesson too and she said she's not sure if she wants to be baptized because she doesn't know the church is true yet, but then she admitted she hadn't been praying... so of course we explained to her again you have to pray to find out if its true so she's agreed to start saying her prayers. And thats whats been going on lately. In the pictures one of them is of a millanesa sandwich which is probably the best sandwich i've had, its a breaded piece of steak with and egg and lettuce and its way good. Then the other is at Victoria's baptism and of course she's the one in white and Nadia is the one right next to me and the Brother in white is Daniel who is an awesome member and his brother married Victoria's sister so he's been a good influence on that family, and the last is of me and my comp and as you can see he's pretty tall i think hes like 6'5 but hes and awesome guy. Well thanks for all the love and support
Love,
Elder Thompson

Trevor's Letter 8-15-11

Hola!
How's everyone doing? It sounds like a lots been hapenning lately. How's Jared holding up now that he's back at home? Well so far everythings been going pretty good here. Although the weather is changing everyday from cold to hot. I also got to play some soccer today with some of the members of the ward which was way fun then afterwards we played basketball, which is actually pretty popular here. Well to answer you questions, yes there are empanadas here that was actually the first meal i had, in the mission presidents home however ever since then i haven't had one which i guess is really rare, however, i did have tacos yesterday because we have a sister in our ward who likes to make all the missionaries american food , even though tacos are mexican food, and waffles.Last week we also had one of the asistants to the presidents stay in our place, who is an awesome guy and i guess he served here before. As far as the church goes its pretty much the exact same as ours, the building is actually really nice. And yes theres plenty of priesthood holders in our ward, acutally one of the fairly recent converts just got interviewed for the priesthood last week which was pretty cool. Well as far as the language goes its gotten alot better since i've gotten here since i'm pretty much hearing it 24-7. Right now i can understand most of what is going on in conversations i just dont know what all of the words mean and my talking is slow but i think its gotten better too. Well other than that, right now we are working with Victoria's sister, Nadia and she's acutally going to church everyweek and doing everything she should be but shes just nervous to actually be baptized, so hopefully we can help her feel more confident when the day comes. We have also been teaching a new family that we met last week and they have the coolest little kid. He's 5yrs old and everytime we go over there he always gives us chocolate milk and all kinds of foods while were teaching and when he's not doing that he's yelling out answers to all of the questions we have its the funniest thing. Well i hope all is good especially now that Jareds back at home. Thanks for everything.
Love,

Hola! From Argentina,
How's everyone doing? Well i finally made it to Argentina everything went good with traveling until we got to Buenos Aires, the plan was after we landed to just go and get on a plane to Salta, but i guess there was to much ash from the volcanoes in Chile that they couldn't fly us so we ended up waiting in the airport all day until they decided we weren't going to fly that day so they got us a hotel to stay in for the night until we could fly out the next day. So the next day we flew to Salta, met our Mission President and had our first ligit meal in Argentina, then stayed the night. The next morning we all met our trainers and found out where we were going and left. My trainer's name is Elder Williams who's from Idaho. He's an awesome trainer hes also the district leader. But right now were in a town called Alto Comedero which is in the providence Jujuy and there are dogs everywhere here its crazy! The culture here is so funny because were teaching people that live in the poorest conditions and yet almost everyone here has a flat screen tv and dvd player its so weird. also the people here love orange fanta i've had it nearly every day, which isn't bad. The food here is actually really good i haven't anything that i didn't really like yet.  Well I started working the night i got here, and i didn't really understand to much but i went along with it. But since then i've been helping teach the lessons a little more each day. Sunday was awesome i got to introduce myself in church and the members are all way cool. And the best part is last night when we were knocking doors, actually instead of knocking you clap outside there house, but anyways and we met a family and i got to invite them to be baptized, and they said that they wanted to! Other than that we have a baptism coming up this saturday with a girl named Victoria which is going to be awesome. Oh and mom as far as pouch mail goes yes we do have it, all the elders in my apartment said to just address your letters to the mission home and it will work. I'll try and send pictures to you next week but the computer i'm using right now doesn't take memory cards so i'll try to find one next week that does. Thats cool Geoffery is going to the same mission as his brother, i've never heard of spanish speaking mission there though that will be cool. Well thanks for everything

Elder Thompson

July 20, 2011

Hola Thompson Familia!
How's everyone doing? Well i finally got your e-mails so its working. That stinks the Acura died again, are you going to trade it in for another one? Well last week was pretty good we were all way excited to get our travel plans. And we finally got our normal teacher back so were back on a normal schedule. Well i'll be leaving here on monday at 3:00 AM! so i'm not going to get much sleep before my flight. However, i have a long trip ahead of me i'm going to be flying from Salt Lake to Dallas, Texas then to New York then finally to Buenos Aires. And the thing they left of the travel plans was how we get from buenos aires to Salta so hopefully were not driving because that would be a long drive. My whole trip with layovers and everything to Buenos Aires is going to take about 27 Hours! so its definatley going to be a little tiring. As far as me being ready I dont think you can ever know till you get out there but i'm feeling good about it definatley nervous, but good. As far as going to the temple goes i haven't been able to go for about 3-4 weeks cause they closed it down so i wont be able to go again before i leave. Well thanks for all the support and letters and hopefully i'll be able to call you in a couple days.
Love,
Elder Trevor Thompson

July 12, 2011

Hola Family!
How's everything going? How was the trek? That's awesome Lauren got married last week. Well last week was a good one i got to leave the MTC because my companion broke his toe. The crazy thing is he was using it for a week and playing soccer on it then on monday he just decided to get it checked out and turns out it was broken. So we got to take the shuttle to a pediatrist, where he found out he shouldn't be delayed from leaving which was good. But it was definatley good to see the outside world. We've also had a ton of substitutes this past week, because the new teacher we got only taught us once then he had to go to California for a week so we'll only end up having him for about a week. Last week they also closed down the gym where we have all of our devotionals and firesides so instead we've been watching them in the cafeteria which is not nearly as good. Yesterday we had a devotional and the speaker talked about Jesus, on his life and death. And one thing i thought was interesting that i didn't know was that through all the ways he could've died on the cross he died from a broken heart which it talkes a little about in the Jesus the Christ too. Well tomorrow i should be getting my travel plans for when i leave and as of now i'm scheduled to leave on July 25 if everything goes good with my visa.
Well thanks for all the support and letters
Love,
Elder Trevor Thompson

Hola!
Hows everyone doing? How was Cali? I'm a little jealous i wasn't there, but i had a good week as well. First off all went good with the Argentine consulate guy we just had to sign a few papers in front of him then he answered our questions about Argentina. Then on Friday we all got to hear from Elder Bednar which was awesome! He talked to us on how to be Preach My Gospel missionaries. And he had 5 steps which were 1. understand you serve and represent Jesus Christ 2. Are worthy 3. Treasure words of eternal life 4. understand the Holy Ghost is the ultimate teacher 5. understand teaching is more than talking and telling. Which helped us all see what we should be trying to get to. Then after the talk we got to me with our mission president and his wife and they were both way cool. They both are from Argentina and served missions in Argentina as well. The crazy thing is that neither of them speak english, but i actually understood them pretty good when they came and talked to us. And the other people in my district going to fresno met there mission president who is the couch from the movie forever strong. My district  also got to be taught a lesson by the MTC President of the Phillipines which was awesome. I also saw Elder Holland pulling out of the MTC on my way back from the gym which was cool. Oh and yesterday i ran into Brady's cousin, Elder Butler, who seemed to be doing good. Well thanks for all the letters and packages its good to hear from you.

Love,
Elder Trevor Thompson

Trevor's first letter 6-1-11

Hola!,
How's everyone doing? Well things are going good here the first few days were a little rough, but its all good now. My companions name is Elder Montgomery he's from Colorado he's a good guy and were getting along great and he's going to Salta as well. My other roomates are great as well there names are Elder Carlson and Elder Boren. I have an awesome district we all get along real good and were already all way tight with each other. There's 12 of us in my district and 5 are going to Salta with me and the other 7 are going to Fresno, California. There's a couple other Elders living on my floor who are going to Salta but i dont really know how many but they only have like 2 weeks left. I've ran into pretty much everyone i know here i've seen Elder Schone a lot cause my gym time is right after his and i've ran into Elder Braithwaite a couple times and Elder Clayton once. Anyways i've been way busy this first week and learned a ton. We had an awesome Fireside on sunday and got to watch a film where Elder Holland is talking to missionaries which was awesome and helped us all out a ton. We also had our First devotion which was good one of my favorite quotes was "To lift someone up you must be standing on higher ground" and so right now i'm trying to get myselft on as high of ground as i can before i go out into the mission field. As far as the language goes its hard, but i feel like i'm learning so much even in this first week. My teachers' names are Brother Johnson and Kuhn. There way good teachers Brother Johnson went to Argentina on his mission so he gives us an inside on all the stuff he did down there and even has us practice the accent they have down there which cool. We've only seen Brother Kuhn once cause he's been out of town but we had a sub named Brother steele, and its funny cause he looks exactly like Clark Kent(superman) and we always joked with himm about that. Anyways thanks for all the letters and support i appreciate it a lot.
Love,
Elder Thompson
